Drives and automation set new standards for capacity, reliability and performance. Advanced new features improve functionality, performance, and reliability.
Helical scan recording technology, based on a very stable rotating drum/head platform, permits accurate and reliable data recording at very high track densities without constant back-and-forth repositioning of tape. With helical scan, only one complete pass is required is fill the tape cartridge with data. Tape speed with Helical scan is typically only 1 inch per second.
Benefits:
AIT-5 is the first Sony tape streamer format to feature MR (magneto-resistive) heads. These more sensitive heads can handle higher recording densities and thus enable greater capacity per media cartridge.
Benefits:
To enhance signal read-back quality, dynamic tracking capabilities inside AIT-5 automatically control the MR head position while on the fly as data is WRITTEN AND read. The AIT-5 tape head automatically adjusts and tracks with the recorded data to ensure maximum data readback strength and recovery.
